When the time comes where you need your oil changed, you can save a lot of money if you do it yourself. Of course, first you need to know how to change oil. Follow these four simple steps, and you’ll see just how easy it is to get the job done.
Step 1. Place your car on a level surface to allow your old oil to drain properly, and also so you can check your oil level when you’re all finished. Use your parking brake for extra safety.
Step 2. Remove your old oil. Locate the drain plug on your oil pan and set a large container under it. Use a socket wrench to loosen the drain plug and then use your hand to remove it. Allow all of the oil to drain from your car. Then, replace the drain plug on the drain pan.
Step 3. Get rid of your old oil filter and replace it with a new filter. Coat the new oil filter gasket with a little oil on your finger.
Step 4. Add new oil to your car. Choosing a quality brand of oil, like Champion oil, will ensure you get the most bang for your buck. Remove the oil filler cap on top of your engine and use a funnel to put the new oil in. When finished, put the oil filler cap back on, warm up your engine and check the oil level on your vehicle.
